Union City doesn’t do food trends. It does feeding you properly, from midnight donuts at SK to a $6.

50 malasada that rewires your brain. I’ve eaten my way through strip malls where the best aguachile hides next to a laundromat, and I’ve returned to Home Eat汉家宴 twice in one week for that wok-fired rice.

This list runs from Sinaloa-style seafood to a robot-delivered Chinese fix, no fluff. Skip the chain mediocrity.

Start with the spots that make this town worth the drive.

Highlights
Order via human or robot
Cold dishes discounted late
Great food, fair price
Fried rice and wings shine
Returned twice in week

I walked into Home Eat汉家宴 twice in one week. That never happens. The robot server glides by, but the human staff is faster. Cold dishes get discounted late, which is a steal. The fried rice is sharp, savory, and properly wok-fried. Wings are crispy, sticky, and gone in minutes. Fair prices for the quality. No complaints. The dining room is plain, but who cares? The food does the talking. If you want dependable Chinese comfort without the fuss, this is your spot. Just don't expect fancy. Expect good. That's enough.

Best malasada in town
Unique rotating flavors
Mini malasada option
Fresh cream fillings
Worth the $6.50 price

Doughweime Bakery & Café makes the best malasada in town. I said it. The rotating flavors keep me coming back, and the mini malasada option lets me sample without committing. Fresh cream fillings burst out with each bite. The $6.50 price stings a little, but the quality justifies it. The texture is light, airy, and perfectly fried. Service is quick. The line moves. I grabbed a dozen and regretted nothing. If you skip this place, you're missing out. Simple as that.

Manila Good-Ha doesn't get enough attention. It's a no-frills spot that serves honest Filipino food. I ordered the pork adobo, and it was tender, salty, and vinegary in the right ways. The lumpia came out hot and crunchy. Service is fast, and the staff doesn't hover. The menu is straightforward, no surprises. But the flavors carry real weight. I left full and satisfied. For a quick lunch, this place delivers without pretension. Union City needs more spots like this. Just bring cash, maybe. Check before you order.

Ube truffle steals show
Treats all delicious
Pandan matcha pairs well
Sweet snacks only option
Skip coffee, get pastries

Cafe 86 nails the sweet stuff. The ube truffle is the star. Rich, creamy, and not too sweet. I paired it with pandan matcha, and the combo worked. Every treat I tried was solid. But here's the catch: it's all sweets. No savory options. So skip the coffee, which is mediocre, and get pastries. The service is friendly, and the space is small but cozy. If you want a sugar fix, this is your spot. Otherwise, don't bother. I'll be back for that truffle, though.

Authentic Sinaloa-style seafood
Fresh, not bottled, ingredients
Friendly, attentive waitstaff
Quick, efficient service
Kid-friendly dessert options

Los Mariscos Sinaloenses surprised me with authenticity. The seafood tastes fresh, not out of a bottle. The aguachile had real lime and chile heat. Waitstaff are friendly and attentive, and the service is quick, even when busy. I saw kids getting dessert, which is a nice touch. The menu is Sinaloa-style, so expect bold flavors and generous portions. Prices are decent for the quality. I left with a full stomach and a smile. This is a solid pick for seafood lovers. Don't let the strip mall exterior fool you.

Highlights
Consistent, reliable Japanese lunch spot
Pork chashu rice bowls stand out
Customizable spice levels, even mild
Friendly, quick service each visit
Worth the parking hassle for regulars

Ramen Shu is my reliable lunch spot. The pork chashu rice bowl is the standout. Rich, fatty, and perfectly seasoned. I asked for mild spice, and they actually listened. Service is friendly and quick each visit. The ramen is consistent, too, not watery or bland. Parking is a hassle, though. I circled the lot twice. But regulars know it's worth it. The broth is deep, the noodles are chewy. If you're in the area for Japanese comfort food, this place delivers. Just bring patience for parking.

Highlights
Open 24/7 for donuts
Full cases, fresh crullers
Bacon egg cheese croissant
Quick, courteous counter service
Late-night bagels with cream cheese

SK Donuts is open 24/7. That's a dangerous fact. I stopped in at midnight, and the cases were full. Fresh crullers, glazed rings, chocolate old-fashioneds. All good. The bacon egg cheese croissant surprised me. It's savory, greasy, and exactly what late-night cravings need. Service is quick and courteous, even at odd hours. The bagels with cream cheese are a solid backup. Prices are fair. I left with a dozen and a conscience. This is Union City's late-night savior. Don't sleep on it. Literally.

Saturday: 10 AM–12 AM

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar is a chain, but it's a decent one. The menu is broad, but the wings are reliable. I got the teriyaki glazed ones, and they had a nice char. The burger was fine, nothing special. Service was polite, though slow on a Saturday. The bar area looks inviting, but I didn't stay. Prices are moderate. It won't change your life, but it won't ruin your evening either. If you're craving comfort food and a cold beer, this works. Just don't expect culinary fireworks. It's a lazy dog, after all.

Saturday: 10 AM–9 PM
Highlights
Play structures are decent
Poor upkeep and debris
Broken toys, exposed wires
Misleading closing hours
Unsafe detached swing

Jolly Roger Land is a disappointment. The play structures are decent, but upkeep is poor. I saw broken toys and exposed wires. That's a safety hazard, not a vibe. The detached swing is unsafe. Don't let kids near it. Closing hours are misleading; I arrived earlier than posted and found gates shut. The debris is everywhere. I get it, maintenance costs money. But this place made me nervous. I left quickly. Union City deserves better for its families. Skip this one unless you're desperate for a playground. Even then, think twice.

Highlights
Tiramisu with chocolate sauce
Chicken picatta with risotto
Specials: lasagna and halibut
Shared soup, nice place
Good service, fair pace

Massimo's is a proper sit-down restaurant. I started with the shared soup, and it was warm and comforting. Then came chicken piccata with risotto. The lemon-caper sauce was bright, and the risotto was creamy. Specials included lasagna and halibut, both tempting. I stuck with the piccata. The tiramisu, drenched in chocolate sauce, ended the meal on a high note. Service was good, pacing fair. The room feels classy without being stuffy. Prices are reasonable for the quality. This is a reliable spot for a nice dinner. I'd return for that tiramisu alone.

Bakery La Mejor is the kind of place you stumble into and leave happy. It's a Mexican bakery with a solid lineup. Conchas, cuernos, and pan dulce line the shelves. I grabbed a few and they were fresh, soft, and not overly sweet. The coffee is basic, but it does the job. Service is straightforward. Prices are low. No frills, just baked goods done right. If you're near the area, stop in. It won't win awards, but it'll fill your stomach. That's all I ask.

Highlights
Fast self-serve bakery
Consistently great food
Quick milk tea service
Fair prices, decent stock

Sheng Kee Bakery #10 is all about speed. Self-serve means you're in and out. The pastries are consistently good, with a nice variety. I grabbed a pork bun and a milk tea. The bun was warm, fluffy, and satisfying. The milk tea came quick and tasted fresh. Prices are fair, and the stock is decent. It's not a place to linger, but that's fine. For a fast bite or a drink, this works. I appreciate the efficiency. No drama, just baked goods and tea. That's a win in my book.
